Good morning, West Perry! Today is Wednesday, September 20th 2017, Cycle day 1.

Student Council is hosting a bus trip to New York City on Saturday, November 4th, 2017. The cost is $60 per person. There are only a limited amount of seats. Informational papers are outside of Ms. Line’s room. Registration is due by Friday, October 13.

Attention all rad High School students, your Decade Themed Homecoming Dance will be on October 14th from 7-10 PM. If your Infosnap is not complete, you will not be allowed to attend. Check with your resource teacher to ensure that it is complete.

Do you like to write? Do you dream of being a published author? Be a part of creative writing club and your dreams may just come true! To sign up, see Mrs. Reeder in room 121.

The volleyball team is hosting a recreational volleyball tournament open to teams of 6 on Saturday, October 7 from 2:30 to 7:00 pm. Entry is $42 for a team of six, and shirts are $12 per player. Shirts must be ordered by this Friday! Proceeds go to the Sideout Foundation to advance breast cancer research. Pick up an entry form outside Mr. Dittmer’s room, 118.

The second annual Shoestring Science Competition is being held Saturday, October 21 at Big Spring Middle School. West Perry is one of a select number of schools invited to participate. We may take up to 2 teams consisting of 3-5 team members each. Each team must have at least 1 sophomore, 1 junior and 1 senior on the team. If you are interested in more information or want to sign up to be a member of a team, please see Ms. Frey or Mr. Kembring. The deadline to sign up is Wednesday, September 27th.

Horizon’s club is hosting a bake sale September 25th through September 29th in the cafeteria during all lunches and in the freshman lobby between classes. We are selling cookies (3 for $1.50), brownies (2 for a $1.00), cupcakes for $1.00 each, and whoopie pies for $2.00 each.

In Class News:

Seniors: order your graduation items on Wednesday, September 27 and Thursday, September 28 outside of the library.

Attention Sophomores & Seniors - your R&K pretzel sandwich & sub orders and money are due Monday, September 25. Drop off in room 201 or give it to a responsible class officer.

Any senior that did NOT receive the information on the 2018 Senior Trip at the Jostens meeting on Monday, MUST stop by room 201 this week and pick one up.

In Counseling Center News:

Next week the following schools will be visiting West Perry: On Wednesday, September 27th Penn College will be here at 9:00, Bridgewater College located in Virginia at 11:00, and IUP at 12:30. On Thursday, September 28th Susquehanna University will be here at 8:00 followed by Penn State University at 12:15. Please see Mrs. Zendt in the CC to sign up for the event.

LaRoche College is holding an Open House on Saturday, Sept.23rd at 9 AM. To register : go to laroche.edu.

The Hugh O’Brian Youth Leadership program is the nation’s foremost youth leadership development organization. West Perry chooses one 10th grade representative to attend each school year. Any student who is interested in attending should write an essay describing the most rewarding and most challenging aspects of being a leader within the school and community. This essay should be no longer than 2 pages typed and double spaced. It should be submitted to the Counseling Center by Friday, Oct 13, 2017. No late entries will be considered.

In Sports News:

Field Hockey plays away at Boiling Springs HS today, with the Varsity game starting at 4 and the JV game starting at 5:30. Players should be dismissed at 2:00.

All wrestlers should hand in their Sub and Sandwich order form to Coach May by Wednesday, September 27. Wrestlers are reminded that Workout are after school Monday, Wednesday and Friday. Today after school all wrestlers not in a sport are expected to get their Certification Pre-Test with Ms Kelsey.
